Understand the pattern, not just the argument.
Couples therapy can create space to slow difficult interactions down and begin understanding what is happening underneath them.
Sometimes couples find themselves having the same conversation again and again without ever feeling like anything is resolved.
You may love and care about one another while still struggling to communicate, feeling misunderstood or becoming disconnected when difficult conversations arise. Small disagreements may quickly become larger conflicts, or you may avoid certain conversations altogether because you already know how they tend to end.
You may be looking for support with:
- Recurring arguments or unresolved conflict
- Communication difficulties
- Feeling unheard, dismissed or misunderstood
- Emotional distance or disconnection
- Difficulty expressing needs
- Trust and relationship concerns
- Boundaries and expectations
- Parenting and family pressures
- Major life transitions
- Patterns from previous relationships or family experiences that are affecting your relationship today
What couples therapy with me can look like
My role is not to decide who is right or wrong.
Instead, I work with both partners to better understand the patterns developing between you, what each person may be experiencing within those moments and how those interactions affect the relationship.
We may explore how you communicate your needs, what happens when conflict arises, the assumptions you make about one another and the experiences that influence how each of you responds.
There may also be moments when I challenge the way something is being communicated or encourage either partner to consider the experience from another perspective.
The goal is to create greater awareness of the relationship dynamic so that both partners can communicate more intentionally and make informed choices about what they want for their relationship.
You can care about each other and still need support.
Coming to couples therapy does not necessarily mean that your relationship is failing.
Sometimes it means recognizing that the way you've been trying to work through something isn't getting you where you want to go.
You don't need to arrive agreeing about everything. You simply need to be willing to begin the conversation.
