Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 20 minute consultation for prospective clients. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for and whether working together feels like a good fit.

Are sessions virtual or in person?

EmberRise Psychotherapy offers both virtual and in-person sessions. Virtual appointments allow you to attend therapy from a private and comfortable location, and in-person appointments are available at the practice office.

Do you accept insurance?

Payment is made directly to EmberRise Psychotherapy. Receipts can be provided for insurance reimbursement where applicable. Insurance plans vary, so I encourage you to contact your benefits provider before beginning therapy to confirm whether services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) are covered under your plan.

How do I book an appointment?

Appointments are booked online through Kindred. Select Book a Free 20 Minute Consultation anywhere on the EmberRise Psychotherapy website and you will be directed to my booking page, where you can view available appointments and select a time that works for you.

What happens during the first therapy session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what brings you to therapy. We may talk about what you have been experiencing, relevant parts of your history, what you hope to gain from therapy and anything you feel is important for me to understand. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or where to begin.

How often will we meet?

The frequency of sessions can depend on your needs, goals and circumstances. Some clients choose to meet weekly, while others may attend less frequently. We can discuss what feels appropriate for you as we begin working together.

What approaches do you use?

My work is informed by psychodynamic, client centred and trauma informed approaches. I may also draw from other therapeutic approaches when appropriate based on your needs. Rather than applying the same approach to every person, I aim to understand you within the context of your experiences, relationships, identity and what brings you to therapy.

What if I am not sure whether therapy is right for me?

That is exactly what the free consultation can help you explore. You do not need to commit to ongoing therapy simply because you have booked a consultation. It is an opportunity for us to talk briefly, for you to ask questions and for both of us to consider whether working together feels like a good fit.

Have another question?

If you're considering therapy but aren't quite sure where to begin, we can start with a conversation.
